Coaches aren’t just for athletes any more. Average
Americans are using coaches to help them with relationships, weight loss,
career development, and many other areas. One coach has even found her way into
a Jane Austen retelling. “Emma: A Latter-day Tale” is a romantic comedy about a
life coach who gets a little carried away.
Emma wants to help her new
friend, Harri, improve her appearance, establish a support group, and, most
importantly, find love. Little does Emma suspect the hilarious disasters that
ensue—including a run-in with the paparazzi and a skinless turkey. Through it
all, Emma learns a lesson about self-improvement that has nothing to do with
the hair salon. She also learns a little too much about country music.
“Emma is an embarrassment to the profession of coaching—at
least in the beginning of the book,” says Jamison. “She has such great
intentions, but every time she tries to help someone, she makes the situation
worse. I think we’ve all felt like that at times.”
Jamison credits coaches for helping her meet her personal
goals to lose weight and become a writer. “My coaches gave me a more positive
outlook on life, and that’s what this book does for readers. It’s a burst of
positive thinking.”
The book is subtitled “A Latter-day Tale” because the main
characters are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or
Mormons.
“Like many Latter-day Saints, Emma is very goal-oriented,”
Jamison explains. “Her enthusiasm for improvement gets her into some messes,
and she eventually learns to accept herself as a work in progress.”
